Hmm, is it broken...
So I went to the doctor this morning to check on my elbow. Had an xray done, not sure of the results. He said he'll call me if it's broken... and if it's not... what's wrong with it!!! Oh well, I'll be seeing him in a few weeks again, so hopefully by then it will be fine.
I'm a bad workout person. I didn't do anything yesterday, and I'm not planning on doing anything today... I have too much to do... but maybe I'll just hop down for 30min, it's just that with everything I need to do, when I workout, I'm too tired to do anything else.... We'll see, I need to get motivated again.
Last night I made a chicken cassarole with ricotta chease, parmesan, mushrooms, greenpeppers and spinach. It's yum, and I had it for lunch today, however I'm now really hungry. I had carrots, but I should have some nuts. Drinking water to last me until home time. Had my usual yogurt with fruit breakfast... forgot the nuts, perhaps this is why I'm so hungry. I was rushing... oops.
I declare I'll be better next week, when my arm doesn't hurt as it does now. Like I said before, at least I'm not eating junk. Just some chocolate milk in the evening. And I had a muffin yesterday... ok, that's junk, but it was a carrot muffin... oops.
I now would like to eat my arm... I wonder if that's in the diet (har).

Yes, no... maybe?
So finally I did a cardio session yesterday with my friend Rumiko. I really wouldn't have done it, and even though she didn't push me, I didn't want to dissapoint her... or myself, and use another excuse. It was good to go, since there are 2 TV's and we were able to watch the hockey game at the same time as the figure skating. I did a very light cardio, since I need to get back into it. However, this morning, my arm was in greater pain... so I finally booked an appoitment with my new doctor, and hopefully I can get it checked out, and see what on earth I did to it... sigh.
I ate salad last night and then yogurt with fruit and nuts (i'm addicted). I had chicken with mushroom sauce for dinner the previous day and for lunch yesterday.
I have to really improve in this blog thing. I usually don't want to do it when I get home from work, so I try to do it during work, but you know... I should be working.
I'll see what happens tomorrow.

eeek
Ok, so, this had been one of those weeks where everything went out the window. I always fear this in me, that if i get distracted, or feel down about something, then I just don't care about myself. So first things first, my nephew was born on the 11th, that was the last day I blogged. Very exciting, lots going on. He's healthy and beautiful, and I'm a super proud aunt. His name is Gavin, he was 8lbs 10oz and 55cm long. I predict he's going to be a super tall baby. And that Thursday was the last day I worked out. That weekend was family day weekend, and I went up to my friend Alex' cottage. It was great, we went cross country skiing, but here's the thing... I am now convinced I shouldn't do winter sports. I have a history of falling in the winter, and hurting myself. I just don't know how to fall. While we were xcountry skiing, I fell hard on my elbow, and now, 'til this day, I still can't straighten my arm fully or bend it completely. I suppose I should really get it checked out, but I feel like it's getting better, so I don't want to waste my time. Anyways, after that, I got into a bit of a depression. Just upset at myself, that I can't do sports without injury, and at this age, it just really gets frustrating. Anyways, I'm trying to get over it in my own way. So needless to say, today is when I'm going to get back on track. I'm super tired right now... I didn't sleep well last night, but I hope that getting back into my workout routine, I can feel better. I hope by Thursday when my personal trainer will come in, I will have a better arm, because it seriously limits me when I have a bad knee and a bad arm. In the meantime I'll be sticking to cardio, and avoiding arm exercises.
I finally found a family doctor... or really a practice of doctors linked to St. Joseph's hospital (where I was born). It's a teaching clinic, so there are student's and residents accompanied by doctors, which I prefer since they're young, and a bit more on the ball with newer treatments, especially since PCOS didn't really become known until the 90's and what I found is that all older doctors don't care as much... but these doctors seemed really supportive.
Thanks all for reading, I think this blog really helps me. I didn't want to disappoint, so I was avoiding writing in it, but I suppose this is part of the process. Hey, at least I'm not eating junk food... as I used to when I'd be depressed.

oh BOY!
I must be quick, because I'm at work, it's been a busy few days, which is why I haven't written. And today is especially busy, as at the moment, my brother is at the hospital with his wife, delivering a baby... so I won't have time to write later.
So here's the precis.
Tuesday night - cardio, ate ginger pork in homemade hoisin sauce with cashews
Wed morn - too tired... again, ate yogurt and fruit with nuts, lunch had... oops... 6" subway sandwhich... sorry. Wed evening, 30min cardio, ate turkey breast with spinach and asparagus then banana
Thurs morn - work out with personal trainer... had a protein shake with banana and raspberries, then later had a polish hot dog, and an egg with dijon. Lunch... small leftover turkey breast and a falafal... oops.
Excited today for the new addition to the family... first one in 31 years!
Off I go to finish deadline before I must head off to hospital!

Feb 9, The Mystery
Alright, I did it again, this morning, I stepped on the scale... just to make sure. And this time I did it before eating or drinking, and whew, I'm back down. Not to the 9lbs I lost but 8lbs... So, what's weird is that I then decided to conduct an experiment. I ate a yogurt with fruit (banana, 1/2 apple and 3 strawberries) with a spoon of maple syrup and mixed nut on top. I had a coffee and a pint of water, after I went to the bathroom, I checked my weight again, and I gained 3lbs. So, it's a mystery to me, that what doesn't even look like 3lbs of food and liquids, turns into 3lbs in my body... but never mind, I will never step on the scale again after eating... and I will wait a while before I go on it again, as it becomes addictive and a number shouldn't cause such emotional reactions.
So, last night, I did a 45+min strength training with my friend Alex. Afterwards, even though I wasn't hungry, but my PT said I must eat after a strength training workout, or else! So I made a pork cutlet with spinach and 6 new potatoes (those really small ones and they're low on the GI). I had a glass of bordeaux. I then had an apple with yogurt.
For lunch yesterday, I had roast chicken breast and mushroom soup, but I felt super full, so I should have only eaten half.
Today as a morning snack, I had nuts. I should have combined it with a veg, but I didn't get to. For lunch I had another pork cutlet (as I made 3 last night so I'd have leftovers and they were fresh). I had a piece of kabanos and carrots with tzatziki. I must learn how to make my own tzatziki, as I love it, and it will be healthier.
I didn't get a chance to workout this morning, since I was sooooo exhausted. I went to bed last night at 22.15, which is unheard of for me, and I had my alarm set for 6.15 and... well, I didn't get up until 8.00. I was sore, so I took a bath in epsom salts. Was late to work... oops.
Tonight, I must, I MUST do another 30 min cardio, since I missed it this morning. Yay. Do I enjoy working out? NO! However, I will keep doing it, because I have to... simple. I heard a useless fact the other day, that only 1 in 4 have the 'fitness' gene, and I can definately say, I don't have it. But that's why we must work hard to acheive our goals.. n'est pas? Alright, over and out, must get back to work!

Feb 8th, Lets see if this works
So this morning, I did what I shouldn't have done, I stepped on my scale after I at breakfast and with clothes on... needless to say, as I've been trying to lose weight since November via working out and eating health, I have somehow managed not to lose. Well, lets rewind here, I lost 9 lbs two weeks ago, and now I'm, for reasons unknown, back up 5 lbs. So my total weight loss from my highest weight in November is only 4 lbs... what am I doing wrong, and how must I improve. Well, a friend of mine is writing a blog about her journey to lose weight... and I thought, hey, why don't I try this too, maybe there's something I'll notice if I just rewind and pause. I will declare to be honest with my excersize and eating. They do say to keep a food journal... so let this be it, I will write everything I eat in a day. I have a syndrom known as PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrom), which is a hormone inbalance, one symptom being obesity, another being infertility, and in order to reduce my symptoms, I need to lose weight, however, it is a slight catch-22, but not impossible. The key is to reduce sugar in my diet... basically having a similar diet to diabetics.
So let me backtrack a little. Ever since I hit puberty, I've been gaining weight. When I was a kid I was really skinny, but then everything went in reverse. I showed signs of PCOS from the age of 10, however there is no way to find out if you have it at that age, and also, back in 1988, PCOS wasn't exactly a known thing. I always noticed that I would gain 10lbs a year... so when I was 10, I weighed 100lbs, when I was 14, I weighed 140lbs, 17 170lbs etc... now if it continues, basically I would be 300lbs at the age of 30... which is not my weight, although, you can see, that gaining 10lbs a year is very hard to notice, the weight just creeps up on you. Gaining less than a pound a month is hardly noticeable, however, now, at the age of 31 weighing 280lbs can really give one a panic attack. In the past decade, I've done many things to try to reduce my weight. I joined Jenny Craig when I weight 200lbs, and as I did lose 20lbs, I gained it all back and then some. Later I tried doing things on my own, and though I wouldn't gain, it was impossible to lose. I lost my father at the age of 22, and perhaps wasn't thinking of myself, and gained some more weight. I decided that I would start travelling more. I lived in Rome and never gained, moved back to Toronto... gained, then I lived in Montreal, later Paris, and I believe I lost in Paris, but I stopped stepping on scales, but clothing fit nicely then. Moved to London, and I didn't gain or lose, moved back to Canada, and gained again, moved back to London, didn't gain, and towards the end, I lost a stone (14lbs) and then I moved back to Canada, and once again I gained... just emphasising a pattern here... it seems as though, the easy lifestyle I have here tends to not agree with my body. One of the main things, is my level of activity (taking public transit, taking long walks... etc) and of course, Timmy's. What can a bagel do?...
I hired a personal trainer in November to help me meet my goals, and one thing he mentioned is that to lose weight 20% is working out, and 80% is diet... he mentioned that I must increase my protein intake and reduce my starch intake, and that only after a strength training workout, is when I can eat starch, and the maximum strength training workouts I can do in a week is 3 times, therefore, starch only 3 times a week. Otherwise 20g of protein before and after a workout (that equals to 2 eggs... this is very difficult to eat at 6 in the morning) and I need to combine my protein with a fruit or vegetable. Due to finances, I had to decrease my personal training sessions to once a week, however, I have gained a friend to workout with, which will motivate me to go to the gym. My gym schedule is as follows:
Monday - 30 min cardio before work, 1 hour strength training after work
Tuesday - 30 min cardio before work (if Monday after work doesn't work out, this is where the 1 hour will go), 30 min cardio after work
Wednesday - 30 min cardio before and after work
Thursday - 1 hour strenght training with personal trainer before work, 30 min cardio after work
Friday - 30 min cardio before work (if I'm not doing anything 30 min cardio after work)
Saturday - 1 hour strength training
Sunday - 30 min cardio
This workout may sound intense, but, you must understand, I doubt I will be doing all of it, so if I miss some sessions, then at least I'm getting a minimum done.
This morning, I did 30 min on the bike. I had a protein shake with frozen rasberries, a 500mL of water and then after my workout, I had half a kabanos (Polish cured sausage)... but I didn't have a fruit or veg... must do groceries today. I will hopefully be seeing Alex (my workout friend, and also a good friend) tonight, and I'll get my 1 hour strength training.
I will post my weight and measurements later, and a photo.
